Retail buildings include: market and exhibition halls; retail outlets; petrol stations; other retails buildings; warehouses for public food provision; warehouses for the police, border protection agencies, the fire service and civil population protection (Destatis 2014). These are, for example, market halls, exhibition halls, car showrooms, department stores, supermarket buildings.

The allocation of mineral building materials to raw material categories is based on formulas. These specify the type and quantity of raw materials required for the production of the mineral building materials. The differentiation according to raw material categories forms the basis for the estimation of raw material requirements as a contribution to the resource conservation discussion.

The allocation of mineral building materials to waste categories is based on the Waste Catalogue Ordinance (AVV). The waste categories reflect which construction and demolition materials are produced during demolition. Their differentiation is an important link towards the execution of recycling in order to identify future recycling potentials.

Determination of the building material-induced emissions ("grey emissions") is based on life-cycle assessment data from the Ökobaudat database (according to DIN EN 15804+A2). The Global Warming Potential (GWP) is taken into consideration. It indicates how much CO2 equivalent is generated during the production of building materials (modules A1-A3), taking into account the given energy mix. The statements regarding CO2 emissions help to describe greenhouse effects as a contribution to the discussion of climate protection aspects.

It indicates how many CO₂ equivalents are emitted considering the respective energy mix. The CO₂ emissions provide important information for describing greenhouse effects and contribute to discussions of climate protection aspects. This assessment considers modules from manufacturing to waste management (A1-A3; B1; C1-C4). For some of the stored datasets, primarily from the wood products sector, ÖKOBAUDAT contains various scenarios for module C. The data used here reflect the current standard disposal scenario for the respective building product.
