Non-Residential Buildings

Non-residential buildings are buildings that are – measured according to the total floor space – are meant primarily for non-residential purposes (Destatis 2022).

The classification of non-residential buildings is based on the classification given by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis 2014). Nine different types of non-residential buildings form the top level of classification. They are subdivided into further non-residential buildings categories.

The non-residential buildings shown here are synthetic buildings. They are respectively defined based on a certain number of buildings with similar characteristics. The data basis is primarily buildings from the BKI building database (BKI o. J.). The composition of the synthetic building types is documented in each case.

Material contents are calculated for the buildings differentiated according to building elements, material groups, raw materials; waste categories as well as grey emissions. The calculated material composition indicators can be used and downloaded to answer a wide range of questions related to resource conservation and climate protection.
